Trying to do some basic things here:
Can't install Java, I get a .bin file from java.com and nothing I do to install it works.
Can't install Innotek VirtualBox, I follow the instructions on their site and I get a license key error of sorts.
Less than 24 hours and already the frustration mounts...

I was too tired last night to get pissed. Believe me, the effect is working overtime this morning.
If anyone has advice, I'd be appreciative. But at this point, I'm glad I didn't wipe my Vista drive yet.

Why not just use Synaptic to install the Sun jre package? Easy advice since I haven't used it. ;-)

last time I messed with installing java in ubuntu I had to use the guide to get it done... http://www.funnestra.org/ubuntu/gutsy/
anyway, give this a try:
ADD REPOSITORIES: http://www.funnestra.org/ubuntu/gutsy/#add-repositories
INSTALL APP: http://www.funnestra.org/ubuntu/gutsy/#sun-java

Thanks for the info Mike and Skip. :) The past 48 hours have been a bit too extreme, bugs and small issues that I can't have in a system I use full time. The Vista drives are back in for now. I don't want to put any more effort in to a beta OS.
The final release of 8.04 is April 21st, correct?
edit: The bigproblems I'm having are:
1) LCD stays off after opening lid.
2) Won't resume from sleep.
3) core services like auto update and synaptic package manager keep failing and crashing.
