Well, good news is that it looks like the iPhone will support 3rd party applications eventually. Since the phone is based on OS X its really a pretty sophisticated operating system and could offer a tremendous amount of power. Certainly the integration with iTunes alone will make it a succefully product, although to what degree remains to be seen.

Personally, I'm addicted to my exchange server. If proper support for that is built in then I can consider using an iPhone. It will be very interesting to see how this product launches. At least one member of the site, Torsten, is planning on getting an iPhone as soon as it launches.

The iPhone looks interesting, however, I am more looking forward to the OpenMoko phone which is similar but based on a port of linux and will be fully open so you can modify and write whatever programs you want. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is them running the window manager on it because it is mildly unstable in the desktop forms of linux as is and that may prove a challenge in this product as well, though I hope it does not.

it all depends on how much attention is paid to the debugging... put enough time into anything and you can make it secure and reliable. Vista is proof.

It would be interesting to make an article about the potential "iphone" effect, and how if may make PDAs as mainstream as iPods...

I'm getting one of those I think...They are only going to be like $350 which is about what a regular PDA runs for and if I can get it by renewing my contract with AT&T then maybe you get a discount like you do on other phones!
