  1. #1

    Default SLI question

If i were to go SLI with two 8800gt's will a 635w Sigma Shark PSU handle it?

My computer specifications are in my signature.

I'm afraid you'd probably want a beefier power supply.

well see im talking with steve from cyberpowerpc. and my motherboard went on BO. so i changed it and hes giving me some upgrades for free. But when i asked him about the 750w thermaltake toughpower he said no to that freebie lol. i just emailed him again asking if he can just charge me for it. its $169 and its got a $40 rebate on it. so its worth the money. if i can get him to let me buy it.

I've never heard of Sigma, so I can't speak well or badly of them.
But the Toughpower is a good PSU.

Nevermind i went with paying for the Toughpower. I got this whole machine for under $1200. Which amazes me. I even got 3 day air shipping!

I see you have it figured out already, but for future reference, you should be more concerned with current output instead of wattage. Having a high wattage PSU doesn't necessarily mean the power is going where you need it.

But you made a good choice with the Thermaltake, I love my Purepower 500. It's running an overclocked CPU GPU & RAM, two WD Raptors in RAID, 4 120mm fans, a front LCD display panel, water pump, and a few other accessories without breaking a sweat. I know I'm really close to my limit, though.

If running 8800GTx or Ultra Amps become an issue
I found out the hard, bought 850w 4 rail psu thinking it would work with SLI 2x8800 Ultra. Not enough amps per rail. Had to return the 850w, now have 1200w with 8 pin connectors and 4 rails (2 @20amp and 2@36amp)
