Thread: P43 chipset Vs P45 chipset

  1. #1

Default P43 chipset Vs P45 chipset

Can someone please tell me what exactly are the differences between P43 chipset boards and P45 chipset boards except the 2nd 8x Pci-e slot on some P45 boards.

I need to get myself a new motherboard soon and have to make a choice between the two. I see that the P43 boards are cheaper than P45s.

As I will be running only a single graphics card so wouldn't the P43 be a better buy for me?

The difference should be in the bios, the ability to overclock, and the structure of the board. For example, an ecs board will work fine, until you move your PC. If you are running an aftermarket cpu heatsink, the extra weight and a move can crack the motherboard, breaking it (happened to me)

Do your research, decide what your plans for the computer will be, and buy accordingly.

Well, I will be using a stock cooler so no extreme overclocking for me. In this case would there be any advantages the P45 boards offer at all?

Also please recommend a good low/mid range P43/45 motherboard. I usually have a preference for Gigabyte boards but i have heard the gigabyte P43s are giving lot of BSODs/ restarts can anyone confirm this?

    imo....

you say you're gonna be running one video card, the stock cpu cooler, and no oc...

a P35 is more than adequate.... it even oc's fine... save your money...

if you do plan on ocing, you'll need an aftermarket cooler with any board, even some $400 monster...

if you ever do want to run 2 video cards.. go with a x48 instead of a P45...

That's a good suggestion. Maybe an ASUS P5k-e

Im partial to the xfx boards, no real issues, inexpensive and very easy to overclock to boot.

If you do get a GA-EP45-DS3R or whatever the case may be it will be shaky till you update your bios. Mine didnt recongize my vid card until a bios update. Overall the the overclocking capabilities seem to be on par with much more expensive boards and the layout is perfect.
