Thread: Any way to get "pay as you go" for Samsung I760

Default Any way to get "pay as you go" for Samsung I760

My son acquired Dek's I760. It's locked to Verizon. He's mainly concerned with the PDA function. But wants to have Verizon sell him a pay as you go plan with no data plan. Crazy, I know. But that's what he wants.
Anyway, Verizon says "Can't do that with a Smartphone". I'm sure they can. Just off the top of my head, I thought, "why not buy a samsung prepaid and have the I760 cloned?"
My question: Can you do that? And where would you have it cloned?

As a side point, I use a Palm 750 with a "Go Phone" sim card from AT&T. Diff. carrier I know. But They told me the same thing.

I do know that with a regular Verizon account you can switch equipment anytime you want. There's an activate your device link that allows you to switch equipment. You simply give it your new ESN and it registers it on their network. I'm not sure if prepaid has the same option but it would be an easy fix if it did.

I don't see how it would not work... my sister has had bad luck on her phones (if she didn't use it constantly) and has routenly used my dads old one with her sim card while hers gets fixed/replaced.

She has a blackberry bold and the sim works in a razer...

It definately works with a sim card system cause I've been doing it for a couple of years now(AT&T). But Verizon is CDMA. Though I did read a piece recently telling about Verizon reluctantly opening up there networks('08). However they did it (I think) cause Google is going to Bid (they may have already?) on the new 850Mhz auction andf Verizon wants it too!

Hey Dyna. I just asked my brother. He said he didnt have any luck. With the sim card it is easier to use anyone elses phone at any time as long as you pop in your sim card.
He got a better phone from his bird and he has the pay as you go. I even called and argued that if they are paying for minutes what do you care. I think Verizon is losing the plot. I emailed someone else who pays as they go but he says he had to use some junker. He had Verizon and has a nice Motorola Smartphone that he still uses as a PDA and then has the junker for calls and text messages.
    Good Luck mate.

Thanks for the followup Cat. We'll see what he does? Might be as simpler as Dek said earlier too? But DJjr says he's not yet ready to do it?
    Will post final results............
