hey your attachments are broke. Are those inline? I need to get Dekard on that.

I'm looking forward to seeing this build come to fruition

what ppd are you getting with the -smp flag? I would expect more than 2000... I have a 2.6 dc workstation that pulls a 1920 /day nice and steady I guess the gpus do need something...

Finally got the 4 video cards, and they look like they have a bunch of potential. As an added bonus, they all came with a $10 mir and a free copy of 3dmark vantage.

I got the NVIDIA drivers installed and the CUDA toolkit up. Made sure that Fahmon was tracking the GPU client that I installed the test the card. It's been hovering around the 4300 PPD mark so far, at least according to Fahmon.

SO far i'm impressed. The CPU score was more than I thought given that its only a tri-core. I'm also happy that everything went well. Once all the rest of the parts come it should be cake, I just have to make sure that I make 4 copies of the GPU client and get the SMP set for a quad core. Other than that, the linux end of my troubles is over!

It fluctuates between 2-2500 ppd. I think its because it is trying to run four instances of SMP instead of three, so the fourth is probably draining some performance from it. The cards stay at around 4300-4500 due to the lower clock and less power they use. I think the quad core will tip it over 3000 PPD if I do some slight overclock and reconfigure it. Same goes for the GPU.

Really, I can't vouch for the performance until i put this on the actual machine it will be running in. The GPU's actually almost use no cpu power (atleast one doesn't) so the cuda wrapper worked. I'll be getting most of the parts this wednesday, so by then we'll have some real numbers.

    Keeping it lol

i'm using my desktop as a testbed for this project. I did it because they both are 790FX chipsets, so when i swap the hard drive over to the new machine, it should take. So two machines, two cpus. I'd sell the X3, but I like it too much.

    UPDATE 4/5/2010
Finally got the mobo and the extra ram I ordered. I built the barebones of the system, just waiting for the PSU to come and we should be set. Note to self: never get a rocketfish cpu cooler ever again. That thing was a PAIN to install on this amd setup. I had to bend the metal hooks to make sure they cleared the plastic bracket, but got the tab in the middle hole. PITA for sure.

BTW, if anyone wants a copy of 3D Vantage for a few bucks, let me know. I have 5 copy's of it from the video cards and ram. I'll only use one of them, so the rest are yours. figuring $10 a pop + shipping (if you even want the CD), since it's $20 new.
