Default Tried to install New HP D1660 lost scan/fax functions from HP 8500 AIO Premier

This aught to be right up your alley Pat? Just spent 4 hrs with India on this. No resolution!
    Here's the story:

I have a new HP AIO 8500 Premier printer(Love it btw). It has, of course the HP monitor software. Which normally works pretty well. I need a portable printer. So, instead of spending about $250/350.00 I saw this nice(sharp looking too) HP D1660 personal job. Figured for $30 @ the Egg, how could I lose? Or so I thought!

When I installed the new printer it effectively erased the software for the 8500?? So, I figured I'd uninstall everything and do the 1660 1st. Then install the 8500 again. Well, after I did all that, I had both printers alright. But no HP monitor? Which essentially means no scanner or fax. Now I can live without the fax. But for all the $$ I spent EVERYTHING should work! It doesn't.

Spent several hrs with India. They pretty much did the same thing with the same results. The Guy from India gave up for today??

I should mention that over the weekend I used(installed) a borrowed Canon I90. Worked fine. No conflicts.

    What'ya think guys?

if your using an hp for a scanner your not doing it right... (jack of all trades master of none)

anyhow... I don't know what you have done... but I suggest using the latest drivers from HP's website for thet 8500... then the base driver for the 1660....
Windows also should have a built in scan function that will do basic scans for you if all else fails...

on a side note... I hate printers... and my work at hp has nothing to do with them...
    I'm level error 404

Ah. I thought you had something to do with them as well. Lucky you. Not real happy about them myself right now.
Got the latest drivers. used the base for the 1660 as well. I suspect they don't "play" well together?

Hey, thanks for the help btw. As always, it's very much appreciated.
