Is it better to leave the TRUE 120 unlapped if I know I'm not going to Lap the IHS on my intel chip. I have no intentions of visably voiding my warranty...according to an intel rep they have no way of actually telling that the chip has been overclocked from what I've heard so if I do accidently fry it (which I most likely won't) I'd like to be able to RMA the chip if I do actually have a problem with it. I plan to stay within the rated VID and hopefully hit 4.0ghz with 1.36v

Lapping the HS will likely buy you 1-2 °C so if it's worth it to you, I'd say go ahead and do it. According to your hardware specs, you have an X48 based system. That chipset was made to push the limits dude. I'd say run your chip for 2-3 weeks at whatever o/c you want to see how your temps are.. if they're hot, and the chip lasts (most failures happen within the first few days of continuous use), I'd say go ahead and lap it too.
Well I definitely have the time to Lap the heatsink. Who knows when the heck Intel is going to ship out more E8500's. Not a single retailer has an ETA on that chip and my TRUE should be showing up at the house today. Maybe I'll have some fun this weekend with some sand paper.

I'm going to be buying a Q6600 shortly, love the price wars!!!
I already have a TRUE 120 lapped and ready, although I took the lazy (quick) way out and bought it that way. Can't remember the name of the site, but It only cost an extra $10 for them to void the warranty for me.
