Thread: Newbie help

    Default Newbie help

    Hello,

I am sort of new to the overclocking environment and am trying to learn how to do it properly. Needless to say, google searches don't usually yield much that is helpful.

I'm running a core2duo e6420 2.13ghz on an asus p5n e sli motherboard with an asus en7600gt and 1gig RAM. I tried running vista on the machine but it just seems to have too many bugs in it so i removed it and am running windows XP pro.

I put these together with thoughts of overclocking to the max and to this day it hasn't happened successfully. Maybe overclocking will be my savior

Very cool! You have a lot of fun overclocking ahead of you---you can probably count on at least 3.0ghz, and maybe much more!

Post #3 in this thread is a great place for you to start. There's a lot of great info in that thread, so the more of that you can soak in, the better.

It would be great to know a little more about your RAM. Do you know what speed it is? Check out CPU-z and post screenshots

Well, you've come to the right place. Quite a few people have been successfully overclocked by the helpful folks here. I'm interested in hearing a little more about your ram.

If I shook hands with Lt. Commander Data, his eyes would turn blue... as in BSOD.

Thanks for the reference to the thread. It really breaks things down easily and is quite understandable. I have a question to ask with regards to the article, i don't know if you'll be able to help me. In the AI tuning menu, grasky mentions setting the PCI clock synchronization to 33.33 Mhz. To me this setting looks to be 10% of the FSB, am i correct in assuming you set this to 10% or is it standard at 33.33 Mhz no matter what FSB you're running?
