The Athlon 64 is a processor from AMD aimed at the desktop and workstation markets. It has built in support for 64-bit operating systems and a integrated memory controller. This memory controller is one of the key points of the chip. Currently they are competing with Intel's Core 2 Duo chip for marketshare with the Intel chip offering better performance compared to AMD's lower cost.
