Contests Rules and Guidelines
The Overclocking Wiki has contest from time to time to reward members for outstanding contributions and to promote the site. These are the contest rules. Please note that these rules may be changed and the most current copy of the rules will always be cross posted to the Wiki as well. If you wish to participate in the contest you must follow the rules here. The guidelines are for your benefit and show you what we look at when determining the winner(s).
Rules
- All articles must fit within the date range specified. For example, if the deadline of a particular article is 1\1\07 then the cutoff will be the server's last recorded edit prior to 12:00 am on 1\2\07. This leaves the entirety of 1\1\07 to revise your entry. Please note, we are not responsible for technical errors related to the time logs. (to clarify, the last possible edit in any given day would be 11:59:59 pm. The clock would roll over to 12:00:00 am of the next day following that and any entries submitted after 12:00:00 am would not fit within the time period specified.)
- The starting time of each contest will be on the relevant category page. Articles that start before the beginning of the contest will not qualify.
- You are responsible to put the relevant category entry in your entry. The editors of the site will make a reasonable attempt to locate and judge articles that do not have this category but can not be held responsible if you do not categorize it yourself.
- On any wiki there is the potential for edits and corrects by anyone at anytime. This will not affect your article unless the edits significantly impact what you have written. Fully developed and well written articles have a much lower chance of this occurring.
- Prizes offered maybe substituted as needed. Prize will not vary substantially from promised prize and will be substantially the same.
- The content of the article must be substantially yours. Plagiarism will not be permitted in contest entries. If you suspect that someone is plagiarizing the text of the contest entry you must notify the Wiki management so this can be investigated and a judgment made. Note, references to the source of the plagiarized content are required on all such submissions.
- Any article designated as a stub can not qualify for the contest. If the status of stub (as determined by the administrators of the wiki) is in place at the conclusion of the contest then the article does not qualify. Note, articles can not be entered in more than one contest so make sure you finish your article before the deadline.
- Contest maybe judged by the readers of this site by means of a voted contest. However votes will be audited before an official winner is announced in this case.
Guidelines
Weighted preference will be given to the types of articles below. We suggest you keep this in mind when preparing your entries.
- Enclyopedic. These have the broadest range of helpful content and should present all the major sides of the arguements on their topic. A proper article will have significant and broad appeal, contain all major relevant facts and opinions and helpful illustrations, diagrams or photographs.
- Work logs. These should represent a significant modification project, reconstruction or a completely handmade build. Significant modifications are complex projects and represent valuable experience. Note, all work logs must include a series of relevant pictures with explanatory captions.
- Product Reviews. There is value in presenting the opinions of the contributors to the wiki on hardware they own or have significant access to. As such, product reviews are accepted but not prefered. Note, any product review must have sufficient pictures to fully represent the product in question and provide the reader with a grasp of its appearance, functionality and other features.
- Build logs. These are standard, off the sheld build logs of a system. They do not contain modifications or their modifications are minor. As such there is educational value in demonstrating how a particular set of components can be *** and used but that value is not core to the purpose of the wiki. Note, special consideration will be given to highly unusual or exotic hardware and servers.
Conclusion
It is our hope the these rules will help everyone to know what we are looking at when judging the quality of submitted articles. Please note, these rules and guidelines may be modified at any time and the modifications may affect a current contest.
