Here's a quick post with some results I'm seeing and get
comments on your results. For reference, I've got a 8600 GTS installed
in a Athlon x2 based system running Vista 32b. (thanks John ) Driver version is 177.35 with the modd'd inf .
This system is worth about 1,900 ppd running the GPU2 client (6.12 beta 8) only and
is used for gaming. I wanted to gauge the impact of F@H on the GPU
while gaming so I tested using 3dMark06 while folding and without
folding. Here's the results:
While Folding: 3,334 3dMark06 score
Without Folding: 5,630
Results from ORB indicate normal scores are 5,400 for this setup so you
can see a 2,100 point drop from ORB and a specific drop of 2,300 while
folding on this system. Ouch.
So, based on this particular system it certainly would be a good idea
to pause the GPU2 client before doing any gaming. Are you seeing
anything different in your testing?
Also, should we be looking to see client improvements that detect
gaming and automatically pause folding until its over? Or, am I missing
something. Hit up the comments link and post your thoughts.

Intel said that it was able to fine tune its DRAM design and hit a
physical clock of 2 GHz using a 65 nm manufacturing process. The
resulting 2T-DRAM offers a stunning bandwidth of 128 GB/s. If Intel is
successful to take the clock speed up to the level of its QX9770/9775
processors, the bandwidth would climb to 204.8 GB/s.

Microsoft has been dealing with a very severe data corruption bug in its Windows Home Server product for a while now and were struggling intially with the fix for it. Well, thats all sorted out now and a beta for Power Pack 1 for Windows Home Server is becoming available starting in June. I know I'll be looking forward to this one.
Dear Dekard,
The Windows Home Server team is pleased to announce details of the public
beta of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1. This public beta will include the fix
for the data corruption bug described in Knowledge Base article #946676 as well
as a host of other bug fixes and new capabilities. The Power Pack 1 download is
planned to be available in early June and Beta participants are encouraged to sign
up and begin preparing now.
Due to the nature of the shared folder data corruption bug (KB #946676) a
broad beta test program with sufficient time for feedback is required. The
timeline for a final release will depend on this feedback and testing, in order
to deliver a fix of the highest quality. To meet our goals for the beta test we
need the number of beta testers who are actively using and testing the Power
Pack 1 beta to ramp up very quickly. Therefore we are asking beta testers to
begin preparing in advance.

The majority of us access OCW through our computer's web browser. An increasing number though, are using their phone or pda's mobile browser to access the forums. We've optomized the forums to display wonderfully on the smaller screens that most of these devices have. To access the mobile version of the forums just head to the same address you use currently from your computer. That's http://www.overclockingwiki.org/forums . Our systems will automatically detect that your on a mobile browser and give you the smaller, optomized version of the site which will look great on your phone or PDA.
Its just one more way we're trying to make OCW the best site for you.

WOW. This team really rocks. With only 17 active members the team is
passing much larger teams. I doubt there is another team that comes
close to our team production. We are at 271 out of 3000 listed on
Extremeoverclocking.com and 273 out of 119695 teams listed on the
Folding@Home stats page. It appears Overclockingwiki.org has what it
takes to break into the top 200 in less than 90 days.
I had to ask myself why do I Fold, why do we Fold? The number one I
reason is "fun". Speaking for everyone at Overclockingwiki, we are
members of a growing web site dedicated to making improvements in our
lives and the lives of others. We learn from the groups experience,
just look at the number of forums and see the wide variety of subjects
we are interested in. The fun part happens when we share the successes
of all who participate in our forums. The more we become involved the
more we each gain. This is not just a small group of narrow minded guys
interested in computers only. The Overclockingwiki Folding@Home team is
contributing to a body of research that may one day provide the
information needed to cure one or more diseases.
The Overclockingwiki web site provides a place where we can share our
lives, good and bad and have fun doing it. Being a member the best
Folding team is another good way to be part of the Overclockingwiki
family.
Congratulations to the members of the Overclockingwiki Folding@Home team for building a winning team.
Folding@Home does not stop me from doing anything I want with my
computer; it runs in the back ground. I game, surf, work and just play
on the internet and don’t notice any loss of use or speed.
What are you waiting for, come on in and join our team . Help us break into the top 100 teams.

The Hauppauge HD-PVR could be what we've all been waiting for since approximately 2003. Ever since people have been connecting their PCs to their HDTVs, there
has been a strong desire to watch, record, and store HDTV content on
the PC. The first option came by way of HD tuners for "OTA" (over the
air) HDTV signals that can be received via a digital antenna. This
option is obviously limited to only those channels that can be received
via antenna, which is primarily the "big" networks. However, for those
of us who subscribe to premium HD channels like Discovery HD, ESPN HD,
etc.

All of us have been waiting for the release of Futuremark's latest benchmark, 3DMark Vantage. Well, its out and you can download it here .
3DMark® Vantage
3DMark® Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance
benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and
DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests,
several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark®
Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed
specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API
from Microsoft.
Presets
A key new feature in 3DMark® Vantage is the rendering option
Presets. These pre-selected combinations of rendering option settings,
like resolution, anti-aliasing and texture quality, represent
different, successively more advanced levels of visual quality. When
running 3DMark® Vantage with one of the presets selected, the benchmark
produces an official score for that preset. Instead of the single
default setting of previous 3DMarks, there are four Presets available
for Entry, Performance, High and Extreme visual quality.
