Ao, I just took a look at the large, guided tour
of the Touch. Apple has really distilled some of the most significant
features from the iPhone into a lower cost iPod. I'll be honest, with
as much as there is in the new iPod, I can't see any reason to buy a
classic iPod. Adding in Safari's excellent web broswer to an iPod is brilliant. The music store being accessible through the iPod's wifi connection will no doubt help Apple's quest to take over the world, not to mention the excellent music player's getting the same interface from the iPhone and the photo gallery too. The spec's are impressive as is the features list. So, all of that kind of raises the question, who's the target for this thing? iPhone users certainly have no need for it, especially those who are happy with the (limited) email and messaging capabilities of their iPhone. The iPod Touch doesn't have any messaging capabilities at all... Zero... Unless you consider being able to access your webmail through the wifi connection messaging. I suppose that will working in a pinch, but I'd hate to be stuck with that as my only option personally. No SMS is pretty limiting as well. So, who is the target audience? How about the millions of iPod users who looked at the iPhone release with sheer jealousy. Between the fantastic design and new music, photo and web features, I bet a lot of iPod users were wishing the weren't 3 months into a 2 year contract with Verizon or T-Mobile. (I'd mention Sprint, but I doubt any of your are foolish enough to use those morons.) $299 seems like a bargain compared to the $599 release price of the iPhone. I'm sure Apple will sell millions of these guys too. Comment (8)           |
