Over the weekend I was at a friend’s house, Nick. He showed me a site he’s developing in Joomla with a VirtueMart backend. I was quite impressed and I started to think about how I could integrate it on the Overclocking Wiki. Needless to say, hours of research later it turned out Joomla would work ok. Well, thats still a work in progress, and who knows, it may never happen.
One thing that did happen was a complete rewrite of another site I admin, Southern Solutions Online, cleverly abreviated as sosoonline.com. Thanks, I’m here till Tuesday. Try the Veal! I found Joomla to be pretty impressive. I couldn’t believe just how easy it was to get past the learning curve and start using it to put out actually useful content. I think the site, out of the box, can look professional especially if you use one of the many templates available to enhance the look and design of your site. I choose one from FS Templates that happened to be free. I also enjoyed this guide on how to install Joomla on Godaddy servers. Then there’s a great guide to starting to use Joomla that Anna wrote. I found it helped me get past the learning curve and understand what it is that Joomla is all about and how I can use it to deliver a professional looking and feeling site. So, take a look at the site and tell me what you think? Does it give a professional appearance? Would you believe I got it online as you see it now in about 5 hours? Comment (0) |
