Page 1 of 2 A severe lack of innovation and an incredibly short life cycle will make the Geforce 9000 series go down as one of the least influential in history.
I really think it is. The lack of innovation and the incredibly short life cycle of the 9000 series (especially considering the technology is based on the G80, which was the most "stale" GPU generation ever as far as I can remember) is going to make the 9000 completely forgettable.
I'm not saying the 9800GX2, 9800GTX, or 9600GT are bad cards, but when I think about the jump from the FX 5800 to the 6800 Ultra, or from the 6800 to the 7800GTX, and from the 7800 to the 8800, those were absolutely epic jumps in performance from one generation to the other. Even the flop of the 5800 FX series was influential because it was a turning point for nvidia, making them go back to the drawing board for the 6800s.
Really the biggest misnomer is the 9800GTX. Again, not saying it was a bad card, but the fact that they gave it a name signifying the pinnacle of the new generation when it was actually outperformed in some cases by the previous gen is laughable.
