So, Joomla is pretty, functional and useful. I’m still hoping for my dream module, a proper mediawiki interface. For this site there’s so much that revolves around the wiki and not having access to it through Joomla is a problem. I’ve looked at a ton of options and talked to a couple of designers and there’s a couple of ways to possibly make this work without a proper module without looking too hackish.
MamboWiki, I can hear you saying it now. Well, I say its nearly useless.
Its 4 versions out of date and hasn’t been in development for quite some time. That represents a security hole big enough to drive Larry Ellison’s ego through. To make things worse, I’ve got an existing MediaWiki install with quite a bit of data tha isn’t DB compatible with the older version in MamboWiki. Please, someone update that plugin.
So, for the time being I’m going to have to extend my search in other directions, possibly other CMS’s to try and locate a well supported option. I just see so much potential for migrating the site to Joomla. If only MediaWiki would cooperate.

Wow…
What a sophisticated RTS. The interface is beautifully crafted and so functional. The depth of control that alone gives is significantly higher. Than you start adding the advanced features like full dual monitor support. Thats awesome. I love the unit ferrying feature of the transport. And how you can have such a mountain of units. Make no mistake, this RTS allows larger battles than any I’ve seen before. Definately a proper successor to Total Annihilation. You know, I’ve got all my TA, CC and TA-K disks still and I’ll hang on to them for some time to come… Nicely done, Chris Taylor.

Over the weekend I was at a friend’s house, Nick. He showed me a site he’s developing in Joomla with a VirtueMart backend. I was quite impressed and I started to think about how I could integrate it on the Overclocking Wiki. Needless to say, hours of research later it turned out Joomla would work ok. Well, thats still a work in progress, and who knows, it may never happen.

As I lamented in my post a couple of days ago, Comcast service to my place was out for nearly two days. That in itself was bad enough, but then dealing with the complete lack of concern on the part of the customer service reps was even worse. To finally get someone to stop reading from their scripts and start thinking I had to play hard ball with them. |

This is the first of many posts over the course of a project I am undertaking. I have over the last few days been working on setting up my own File server. This project has sort of evolved over the course of its progress from a simple Windows XP desktop that had an FTP server, VNCserver and shared drives that could also be used as a desktop. To something a little more official and a heck of a lot more stable, Linux.
