The first screen you'll see in Ubuntu will ask for your username and password. Just enter the same things you did before and you'll be in. Oh, I should mention that its case sensitive so anything you capatilized will have to be just the same.

Then, you'll be at the Ubuntu desktop! There's a few things you'll probably notice immediately. The first thing I saw was an icon that was labeled '160 GB Media'. At first the name may not mean a lot to you but you'll quickly realize its one of the most useful icons in the system since it can show you all your files! Its a simple link to your hard drive so you can access any documents or pictures you want to.

The next thing you may notice is a Firefox icon at the top of the screen. Just hit this link and you'll be right on the internet.

On the right side of the screen at the top you'll get a notice about the system needing a few updates. Go ahead and run these, it won't take long and you most likely won't need to reboot when its over. If you get a warning about restricted drivers you can either install these or not, its not going to make a big difference.

On the top left you'll see Application, Places and System. These are roughly equalivant to the start menu in Windows so you can use word processing, graphics, games, multimedia programs, utilities and much more. Take a look at your options and you'll quickly see that Ubuntu has quick a few programs installed with it that make it a great choice. If you would like to have more program just the the System link, choose Administration and Synaptics Package Manager.

Synaptics package manager is something that really doesn't exist inside Windows. Its a small program that know all the thousands of various programs you can install under Ubuntu. Just hit the search button and it will give you a simple listing of whatever you are looking for. Or, look on the left side and you'll see categories of programs, you can look through there and find most anything you are looking for. The best part is that all these programs are completly free, you'll never pay for a program installed through the Synaptics Package Manager.
