Though the official NDA is scheduled to be lifted next Monday the 28th, some cards have begun to pop up in China.
ATI's new R680 beast which will compete with the similar dual GPU monster from NVIDIA has been released into the wild....though only in China so far, it appears. The card was already spotted on store shelves selling for RMB 3999 (or about $550 USD), equipped with two RV670 GPUs, both with 512MB of RAM for 1GB total, and core GPU speed of 825MHz and 1.0ns GDDR3 running at a speed of 1,000MHz.
Some benchmarks have also been released (despite the still-ongoing NDA), showing the card consistently beats the 8800 Ultra (as long as the drivers work correctly, I assume). The biggest question I have is this: I scored a 3870 (single) from Best Buy recently for a rediculously low price using some Christmas gift cards and etc. Since it's the exact same card as what's on the 3870 X2 (except the X2 uses GDDR3 as opposed to the GDDR4 on the single, apparently), could I use the X2 with the single in Crossfire config? That would be a great way to get a nice boost from 3 GPUs. Please ATI? Comment (1) |
