Dell has the Poweredge SC 1430 on sale right now for $729.  The dual quad core Xeon 5310 (1.6ghz) are a free upgrade.  This by itself makes for a great budget server box.

However, thanks to the 2cpu forums, there is a way to bump up the 1066mhz FSB of the 5310 to 1333mhz, effectively overclocking the 1.6ghz CPUs to 2.0ghz by way of a "pin mod" (or in this case, possibly a "pad mod").  The only thing this mod requires is using a bit of electrical tape to insulate the 6th pin from the bottom on the far right of the CPU (with the "notches" on the CPU pointing to the right).  There are more detailed instructions on the 2cpu site.

I just wish the chassis had more capacity for hard drives, or else I might consider purchasing it for my home server!
