Privacy at a new low - Driver's Licenses searchable online, with photos. Print E-mail

I'm am pretty upset about this. A Florida based personal information brokerage company appealed to the state Supreme Court for the personal data of drivers accross the state.  Their claim was based upon the fact that public information is covered by a 1997 federal law that required the release of personal information to duly constituted authorites AND THEIR CONTRACTORS.

 They won.

Their intention was to sell the data to the highest bidder, typically a bulk sale of consumer data to companies interested in providing credit, mortgage refinances and other offers. Sales of the data began in late 2007. Now, due to a change on behalf of the federal law the Florida Supreme Court has required that all the data previously provided be made publically accessible as soon as possible. As a result, the company has decided to post a searchable listing of driver's licenses in all 50 states.

I just checked and I was able to look up myself and my wife. I can't beleive that this data, personal and private is publically posted! How many laws is this company breaking and how big will the eventual lawsuits be?

 Unbelievable.
